When Should You Play a Boast in Squash?

Boasts, where the ball hits against a side wall or back wall first, are played in attacking and defensive situations.

When played as a defensive shot, they should generally be played high to ensure they reach the back wall and to give yourself more time. When played as an attacking shot, they are most often called "working boasts" as their objective is to draw the opponent forward without giving them too many opportunities to hit winners. The key point to remember is to not play an attacking boast from a defensive situation.
